As countless communities around America gear up to host parades, concerts, cookouts, and fireworks this July 4th, many of them will once again be keeping revelers safe and informed with Everbridge text alerts.

Days ahead of the festivities, towns large and small began encouraging residents to sign up for notifications, by simply texting a Keyword from their mobile phones. The service is provided by Everbridge’s Community Engagement platform, which makes mobile alerting quick and easy.
Take Washington, DC, where each year the nation’s capital celebrates the Fourth with a bang. The United States Park Police has again partnered with the District’s Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency (DCHSEMA) to protect crowds as they visit national parks and monuments around the city. Visitors heading to the National Mall are urged to text JULY4DC to 888777 for traffic detours, parking restrictions, and public transit updates.

Heading to New York City for the patriotic fireworks display? This year, Manhattan’s Independence Day spectacle shifts closer to Brooklyn to accommodate hundreds of thousands expected to line the East River — along with a heavy dose of NYPD counter-terrorism officers and police drones. NotifyNYC has also rolled out emergency alerts as part of the City’s safety plan. Text JULY4NYC to 692692 to receive those alerts and updates.

Down in Florida, the City of Tampa wants to make sure “Boom By The Bay” goes off without a hitch. The City is expecting the celebration to attract at least 100,000 people for a full day of live entertainment, food trucks, a water ski show, a hot dog eating contest, and four simultaneous fireworks displays. Festivities will stretch 2.5 miles along the waterfront. If you live in the Tampa area or are planning to spend the holiday there, you’re encouraged to text BOOM to 888777 to stay up to date on what’s happening.

And across the country, crowds will gather at Fisherman’s Wharf and Pier 39 to view the dazzling fireworks over San Francisco Bay. Officials there are also encouraging attendees to stay in-the-know by opting into their SFJULY4 safety alerts, traffic updates, and weather advisories. San Francisco is no stranger to critical event management, having deployed keywords for other large gatherings like the Pride Parade, New Year’s Eve, and Super Bowl 50. Besides festivals and celebrations like July 4th, Everbridge is regularly used during severe weather situations, including hurricanes in Florida, wildfires in California, and volcanic activity in Hawaii.
