City of Atlanta enhances 911 Center with Everbridge Aware and SmartGIS

Posted on December 16, 2011 Yesterday, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed announced during a press conference that the city has selected Everbridge’s emergency and incident notification solutions for its 911 Center to notify residents about emergencies and other incidents that may impact them. The Everbridge team was honored to attend the event with the Mayor, as well as with Police Chief George Turner and Fire and Rescue Department Chief Kelvin Cochran. “I am excited to announce the addition of the Everbridge emergency and incident notification solution to the City’s communications arsenal,” said Atlanta’s Chief of Police George Turner. “Keeping our citizens informed during critical events, both large and small, is a key part of our mission. The Everbridge system, with its unique capacity to dynamically scale communication resources, will allow us to respond to any situation.”

Using Everbridge’s solutions, city officials will be able to communicate with residents through phone, text, email, instant messages and other methods, which residents can define in an online citizen portal via www.atlantapd.org that is powered by Everbridge. Specific neighborhoods can also be targeted to receive special alerts about emergencies near them, without the need to send out a citywide alert. Additionally, city officials can request confirmation responses from those contacted to maximize the efforts of the first responders and increase safety in Atlanta. “Through this exchange of information, we will be able to better serve the public and ultimately save more lives,” said Mayor Reed. ”We are excited that the City of Atlanta has selected Everbridge because of our track record of reliably delivering incident communications, regardless of the size or scale of the crisis,” said Jaime Ellertson, CEO of Everbridge. “With our elastic infrastructure model, we are able to deliver the best scale and performance in the industry. We look forward to serving the needs of the police department and the citizens of Atlanta.”
