Town of Middlefield Uses Everbridge to Successfully Manage Communications During Hurricane Sandy Only Days After Implementing
Glendale, Calif. – The Town of Middlefield, CT successfully managed their communications during Hurricane Sandy using the newly implemented Everbridge system. Hurricane Sandy, which caused more than eight million power outages nationwide, struck the Town of Middlefield just days after they completed implementation of the Everbridge mass communication and emergency notification system. With over 20% of Middlefield households without an active landline telephone, Everbridge’s capability to simultaneously broadcast information across a variety of contact paths including mobile phone, SMS, pager, landlines and email provided town officials the ability to communicate their message as efficiently as possible.
Communication of critical information begins before the storm strikes, explains Brian Dumas, emergency management director, Town of Middlefield. “It’s not just a post incident notification system. This system is to be used before the storm hits by 48 to 24 hours ahead of time while all communication lines are still functioning and people have the ability to prepare. It’s essential to communicate across the lifecycle of the event, from beginning to end.”
