Johnson Controls Building

Johnson Controls International (JCI), founded in 1885, is a global leader in smart and sustainable building solutions. With over 100,000 experts operating in 150 countries and 1,600 offices, JCI continues to drive innovation in building products, technologies, and integrated solutions that advance efficiency, safety, and sustainability worldwide.

Challenges

When Brad Abelt became GSOC and Security Operations Manager at Johnson Controls International (JCI), the company was struggling with disconnected systems and unstructured HR data across its global network of 105,000 employees and 1,600 offices. The lack of integration led to confusion, inconsistent processes, and challenges in identifying major threats such as hurricanes or active assailants. Rapidly expanding alert thresholds further overwhelmed teams, hindering effective critical event management. Abelt noted that the absence of a dependable data feed made adopting Everbridge essential for improving coordination and situational awareness.

“Everbridge filled a giant gap that we had. It allowed our GSOC to focus on more than the most severe critical events because previously everything had
been so manual.”

-Brad Abelt, GSOC and Security Operations Manager

Solutions

Johnson Controls International (JCI) turned to Everbridge after leadership recognized how inefficient and manual their communication and threat management processes had become. With Everbridge CEM, JCI now maintains an organized global asset database spanning 1,600 facilities across 150 countries, enabling automatic alerts when threats arise. The system streamlines communication through structured FYI emails and checklist-based alerts to key stakeholders, while Everbridge VCC provides a unified operating picture to identify and prioritize risks. These integrations allow JCI to automate responses, reduce manual work, and enhance situational awareness across regions. Building on this success, JCI plans to implement Everbridge Mass Notification to further strengthen enterprise-wide and personnel resilience.
